Most color combinations that look amazing can be explained by looking at their positions on the color wheel. There’s a science to mixing colors that we sometimes use without realizing it. Still, there are some combinations that are wonderful no matter what the wheel says. Perhaps it’s because we see them together all the time - something that nature has put together, or maybe the jerseys on our favorite sports team.
Most of my favorite color combos can be found on the wheel. I adore Chocolate and Mint, which are really just orange and green at different values. Coral Red and Turquoise Blue is another favorite, although I haven’t been brave enough to use it just yet. Then there is a combination I like to call Barbie Doll - blonde yellow with electric pink.

I have several combinations that I love, but the one I've used often is teal, red-violet (wine), copper, and a hint of olive (or lime). This necklace is an example, http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=754747

Hmmmm....best color combinations.... I love to use the world as my palette. I like to use a pop of a complementary color now and again. Often it is when I leap out of my comfort zone of warm and jewel tones that things really get interesting!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was having a feature in Bead Trends I opened up my beader's color palette book and closed my eyes and voila! I picked orange-purple-green. But I love a challenge so I pulled out all the beads I had in those colors. I ended up making the most incredible piece of jewelry with warm copper oranges and dusky purples and soft greens. But I love all color values and try to mix it up rather than staying in one palette!
Thanks for the inspiration, Mortira!
Enjoy the day!

I don't stay with one palette either, but I love pink and black, and green and black for today.

In general I'm most comfortable in a water palette. I have more shades of blue and green than anything else. But inexplicably, the combination I have the greatest weakness for is garnet/hematite. Once I mixed in a little amber as well and was very pleased with the result!
