I started by pairing up different shades of yellow and brown - canary with terracotta, and rootbeer with lemon. I wanted hints of green for a background, so I added yellow-lined black diamond with it’s olive-y vibe, and transparent lemon lime cubes. A few fire polish beads in an earth tone mix offered some extra yellows and browns.
While I was working on this piece, I took some snaps and created a brand new beading tutorial. The project includes instructions for making all of the peyote rings, and weaving together the continuous chains to make a no-clasp necklace.
I also started a new tutorial feature - text only PDFs. So beaders can still study the project in full color, and have the option to print without images to save on ink and paper.

Ohhh I do love this design. Now don't be upset with me. I have been beading for 45 years and a lot of what people are doing today came from some of my instructional articles over the last 19 years. I use and bead all beading techniques and have a love hate relationship with some of them. LOL

I'm fairly new to bead weaving, and have had fun learning peyote, netting and RAW, but the one I really want to learn is St Petersburg chain. I love the wonderful effects you can get just by using different beads or doubling up the rows.
ReplyDeletefor some reason, the right-angle weave and the square stitch have me stumped! I've just learned to do peyote and I love it..maybe i can't get peyote out of my head, hence, the struggle with the other two stitches! Thanks for all the info you share!!
ReplyDeleteit would have to be uneven peyote, I made one bracelet using this technique, and it turned out beautiful, that was about a year ago........I wanted to make my hubby a hat band using the same pattern, and now I can't figure out the turn around, it has totally slipped my mind, and for some reason, I can't even understand the instructions for it any more, think I am getting senile......

ReplyDeleteA big problem is also adding beads to peyote during the regular work on a design, especially if I make some flower's design which is not a straight line on the edges of the work.

ReplyDeleteI have yet to truly master any of it which is why I would SO LOVE to win this tutorial! I've taken classes on peyote (odd & even) and ndebele and love them. But master at them? Hardly! I need to do more and more to become masterful and I really love doing it. I want classes in RAW, brick stitch and St. Petersburg, too. I want to learn it all. Just started my beading journey 6 months or so ago. Loving every minute of it! Thanks for this drawing.

I've been beading for 5 years. I've tried RAW few times, but still have some problems with it. And I love herringbone, but my favorite remains the coralling technique.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I put off learning it for a long, long time. Every time I looked at the instructions, I would get totally intimidated. But it turned out to be so much fun!
We have RAW (single and double needle) pretty much down!!!! however, we have to learn all the rest.... in order in no preference: peyote: even and odd, brick, netting, you name it - we need to learn it!!!!! lol - had to watch a video like 2,000 times to get the 2nd row of RAWl!!! Thanks for the opportunity!

ReplyDeleteI am this year trying to learn new stitches and master the ones I do know in all their variations. But the one stitch that I've not tried that looks daunting to me is the square stitch. And I have issues with the two-needle raw. Single needle is fine but the 2-needle I put in the category with the square stitch.
