A Flicker of Inspiration: Nudibranchs

Is there any source of inspiration more abundant than the ocean? The colors, shapes, and even moods of the sea translate so well into all kinds of art forms, including beadwork. No matter what time of year it is, or where you happen to be, if you’re feeling in a beachy mood, beads can take you there.

One of my favorite sea creatures is the nudibranch. These beautiful reef dwellers come in an amazing variety of colors and shapes, and are often confused with sea slugs and other tropical mollusks. Pronounced new-dee-brank, their name means “naked gills”.

What’s your favorite sea creature?

  2. Hi;
    The photos of the reef life can really be the fantastic inspirations for beaders.I've seen some jewellery sets at the internet inspired by the marine life.There are almost unrepeatable colours and the 'ready made' patterns to imitate.Those photos,You're presenting here,can be very helpful for beadwork development.Thank You very much:-)
    Best Greetings-Halinka-

  3. And these are just the tip of the iceberg! I didn't catch any of my favorites, like the Sorcerer's Nudibranch, and the Orange Peel Nudibranch. I've been meaning to try making one of those with freeform RAW for ages.

  5. Those are totally cool! My kids and I sat here deciding what each one reminded us of, like the first one looks like a cow. Love the vibrant colors!
