Bead Wish List: Raindrops

With spring daylight savings just around the corner, it’s almost safe to start dreaming of sunny days, flowers and butterflies. But on this side of the planet, we’re not out of winter just yet, and we’ve got a whole lot of rainy weather to look forward to before the grass starts growing green again.

With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to put a pleasant spin on the rain, with some beautiful raindrop inspired beads. I literally searched for beads described with either ‘rain’ or ‘drops’, and found an amazing variety of inspiring selections. These are my favorites!

  1. I love the rain. I love the sound it makes, I love the contrast of being in a lit up, warm house while it pours outside, I love that it means I don't have to water the garden.
It's just gone autumn here, so we are getting a lot of wind, which has just reminded us how powerful mother nature is by causing some pretty amazing destruction over the lower part of the island last weekend.
My favourites of the above beads are the cats eye drops, they are beautiful!

  2. I like drop beads but I prefer them with a hole from top to bottom

  3. I definitely find inspiration in rainy weather and enjoy a lot of cloud/rain items. Great round up of beads! I have ordered some of beadsandbabble's drop beads before. She has wonderful stuff.

  5. Well there are some pretty stunning pieces here but I must say that the "Desert Rain Czech Glass Spindle Beads" blew me away!

And, a suggestion to the post written by " me " -- I agree that it can convenient to add drop beads using a headpin or similar, but remember that drop beads that are drilled through at the top can be strung right on to a strand of beads or even right into a beadwoven piece. Or hung from a jump-ring loop. Or a bail. Or... well, lots of options.

If you still aren't comfortable with top-drilled drops, some of the beads featured here do have a hole from top to bottom. Glancing through, I see that the Spindle Beads I mentioned above have a top to bottom hole (or side to side, depending on your perspective!), as do the Blown Glass Teardrop, and the Swarovski Drop Pearl which all fit your preference! They all have amazing colors and varied shapes. Don't forget the rondelles and the lampwork spacers which aren't drop beads at all. I just wanted to point out the incredible beauty and diversity to be found in this particular "wish list"! It makes me want to join Pinterest to put up all the stuff I wish for...... especially since my bead budget bottomed out on me last month.
