Converting the simple and structured wavy bracelet into a collar proved to be much more difficult than I originally thought it would be. I started out with a template that I traced from an existing collar, and diligently measured and checked to make sure that I was using the right quantities of beads to get the shape that I wanted. Even with all of that fussing things still went sideways, but I think it’s all going to work out anyway.

Right now I am working on a necklace that has been on my beading tray for what feels like months now. For some reason I keep getting interrupted by the dumbest things. Two weeks ago I ran out of thread, and no one in my area had any in stock, so I had to order online. This week, I broke every beading needle that I owned that was of appropriate size. It seems like just when things are going well with this necklace, everything falls apart. Sometimes it feels almost impossible to get a project done. The good news is, once it's finished you'll feel so good that your next project will be even more amazing. It's like popping a cork on your creativity!

Yes, the base is made with square stitch, which allows for the continuous rows, and all of the extra thread passes required. I originally tried this technique with peyote stitch many years ago, but it takes far too long to weave through the panels!
DeleteOh I love Thoth's collar! If you hadn't said how difficult it was, I would love to be working on it!! lol I just finished a peyote cuff and am trying to decide what I want to do next. Need to order more beads but have to wait until the first of the month. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is a lot of work, but the look that it creates is really worth it. Of course, if I was willing to use metal it would probably go a lot faster with spreaders for a similar look. I'm having more fun doing it the long way!
