There are so many different styles and types of jewelry, but the best is always the kind you make yourself. As beaders, sometimes it’s fun to stretch our creativity, think outside of the box, and try something new. Handmade jewelry isn’t just about beads, and there are plenty of DIY projects that prove it.
For a change of pace, why not put the jewelry before the beads? Here are a few of my favorite projects of late:
Box Braid Necklace - A camp favorite, all grown up! From Honestly...WTF
Floral Fever Necklace - Transform filigree components and make your own unique color palette. From FusionBeads.com
Batik Fiber Necklace - Okay, this one has a few beads, but the emphasis is on the beautiful batik yarn! From favecrafts
Springtime Fabric Necklace - Use your favorite fabric to make a trendy, lightweight necklace. From Elegant Musings, via Tilly and the Buttons
If you’re not quite ready to give up on beads, here are a few other fun techniques to try:
Kumihimo Beadweaving from The Beading Gem's Journal
Crochet Beaded Necklace from Craft Bits
Ribbon Statement Necklace from The Seams
Fashionista Ribbon Bracelet from Artbeads.com
What's your favorite wearable craft to make?

These were great! I love it when people both think outside the box and upcycle/recycle! I think my new favorite jewelry technique is making Friendship bracelets with my daughters. And I love the work of macrame artists who take the knotting/weaving to the next level such as Marion Hunziker-Larsen :D
ReplyDeleteYou come up with some really awesome stuff my dear. I am all about the beads right now but I use to embellish t-shirts with cross-stitch and ribbon embroidery does that count?
ReplyDeleteThose are some neat ideas for jewelry! Thanks for sharing!
