Bead Giveaway: Golden Hues

Dark Gold Bugle Bead Necklace

If every beader got their wish to be swimming in piles of wonderful, sparkly beads, they might get a new understanding of the phrase “Be careful what you wish for”. Just like having a spectacular art bead that you can’t bear to part with, large quantities of seed beads or accents can become like baggage. They leave you wondering if you’ll ever find a way to use them all.

During my necklace a day challenge, I tried to make a big dent in my almost half pound stash of dark gold bugle beads. I suppose I underestimated just how many of these beads I had, because even a 10 strand necklace didn’t reduce them by much. It occurred to me that I might be finding ways to use these beads until the end of time!

Dark Gold Bugle Beads

Well, instead of letting them loiter about in my bead stash, I thought it might be time to pass them on to a beader who has a bigger passion for bugles than I. The color is really fantastic and pairs up well with blues, greens and neutrals. If I was a little more ambitious, I would have loved to see them all go into one fantastic project, like Perie Brown’s woven bead scarf.

And since pairing up beads as a gift set is almost as much fun as creating with them, I’m giving these away with matte and silver lined gold bugles, and galvanized metallic gold 11/o Czech seed beads. As a palette, I think they’d be great for home décor projects like beaded curtains or lampshades.

How to Enter

For a chance to win all of the beads shown here - about 120 grams in all - simply add a comment to this post and answer the following question:

If you could get a wheelbarrow full of just one type of bead,
what kind of beads would you pick?

  1. I loved your necklace a day challenge.
Interesting question! I am torn between ordinary seed beads to use for beadweaving or delicas for peyote stitched little boxes.
I have a slight addiction to making the little beaded boxes, so Delicas in a full rainbow of colours it will be my wish.

  2. Difficult question. I think I would work with lampwork glass beads if I could only work with one type of bead for the rest of my life. Luckily, I don't have to make that choice in real life ;)

  3. Definitely seed beads would be my choice. In my opinion they are the most versatile of all beads. You can bead with them alone, make beaded beads, embroider, embellish - you name it!
The beads you are giving away are gorgeous!

  4. I would definitely choose seed beads of any type, size, color! I just need them like I need air. HA! On my Amazon wish list I have pages of beeds but lots & lots of metallics because that's where I'm short in my bead inventory. I would SO SO love to win your bountiful giveaway. Thank you for making it available! --SallyAnderson

  5. that is a very hard question to answer, if I could have a rainbow of colors in the wheel barrow, I would say delicas, if not an asortment of lampwork beads would be good too..when it comes to beads I can be pretty greedy

  6. Good question!
A wheelbarrow full, eh? Well, that would be sort of easy! Not! lol I'd have to weigh between Mijuki cube and Miyuki Triangle beads...mmm...I think I'd pick the Triangle beads. I love using both in herringbone stitch as well as bead embroidery, but probably use more of the triangles.

  12. Good question. For me it would be seed beads. I love all kinds of seed beads, just to go through them all and look at them brings me joy.
    Best wishes and happy holidays,

  13. I thought about this a lot as I read through the entries, seeing so many people choosing round seed beads. I think I would choose Swarovski bicones, but in my work they have the "disadvantage" (in this case) of absolutely necessary additions of -- you guessed it! -- seed beads. So I go with the crowd on this one. Best to all,
    Allie
PS In case I win! ;-) I can be reached at alliemetuchen AT aol DOT com. Thanks!

  14. This is a hard decision, either between bicones or tila beads, I guess I'd say bicones, since they are used in so many beading projects.

  15. Pearls, definitely freshwater pearls of all colors and sizes. I would not know what to do with a wheel barrow full of seed beads, yet... maybe some classes are in order.

  16. I am loving these ideas so far! Seed beads are a popular choice, and I know I'd never turn down a whole wheelbarrow full of them! But it would be great to have a huge supply of accents to work with.

I like the sound of a whole lot of Swarovski crystals. All those shapes and colors would be hard to resist!

  17. All kinds of Czech beads, every kind.

  18. Oh, definitely seed beads! You can never have too many seed beads, I think. :)
